Fun Ideas for Keeping Kids Entertained
Being a good parent doesn’t just mean being a good care giver. Being a good parent also involves being your children's entertainment specialist. Children have unrivaled curiosities combined with extremely short attention spans, so this makes it difficult to keep them occupied. As a parent, you have to constantly be coming up with ways to keep your children entertained.
Children are easily bored. Unfortunately, activities like cleaning their room and drying the dishes are usually at the bottom of their list of fun things to do. However, there are ways you can keep them occupied and happy. It is a good idea to keep several things on hand that will let their imaginations run wild.
Young children enjoy building things and so keeping a box filled with items that can be used in craft activities is an excellent idea. The box can include a variety of things, including:
* paper and pencils
* glue and sissors
* scraps of materials
* old buttons
* glitter
* popsicle sticks
* old cereal boxes
* old magazines
* plastic containers
* pasta
Of course, there is no limit to this list. You may even want to make a game out of finding interesting things to stash in the box. By keeping these items together in one spot, you can hand the box to your children and let their imagination run wild.
Playing pretend is one of the most enjoyable childhood activities. Children have such vivid imaginations that a piece of clothing can take them to places that adults cannot even dream of. That is why it is a good idea to keep old clothes, hats, shoes and jewelry.
Once children get older, they require more stimulating activities. Although it may seem difficult to get them engaged, it is actually pretty easy. Let them try something more grown up like preparing a meal, or give them some craft material and letting them start a scrapbook of their favorite photos. Many children will have fun writing and drawing stories. Children love to create so this may develop into one of their favorite activities. If a video camera is available (and if you trust your children with it), you might want to let your children make a movie. Acting is a grown up version of pretend so children would love this activity. You might be surprised with what your children can come up.
These are just a few ways to keep children entertained. There are infinite ways to do so; the key is finding them. Involving children in planning activities is a great way to get input and come up with new games and entertaining concepts.
